Biography
Anne-Valérie Gasc, born in 1975 in Marseille, currently lives and works in Marseille, France.

She first studied at ENS de Cachan before pursuing her thesis at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne in 2005. Since 2007, Gasc has continued her dual status as an artist and as a researcher through her teaching in contemporary art at ENSAM, École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Marseille.

Gasc’s artistic practice is based on devastation, demolition and disappearance. Her outcomes span through different media and have the relation to architectural objects. Gasc’s practice explores the gesture of deconstruction as a work in itself by setting up situations and strategies that seek to challenge our apprehension of reality.

Gasc is a resident of the Friche Belle de Mai, where her workshop is located. Her work is regularly exhibited in France as well as internationally: among other places, in Paris (Pavillon de l’Arsenal, Maison Rouge, Galerie Nationale du Jeu de Paume), Tours (CCC), Lyon (IAC) and Marseille (FRAC PACA, Panorama de la Friche Belle de Mai); in Amsterdam (FOAM), New York (Gagosian gallery), in Slovenia (Maribor Museum of Contemporary Art) and in Sydney (Biennale de Media Architecture).
