Biography

Meta Drčar, born 1985 is a Slovenian artist, currently living in Paris, France. She graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins, College of Art and Design, London in 2009 and completed her MA in Dance Theatre; Body in Performance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, London in 2012.

Drčar’s main body of work consists of installations that establish parallels between the moving body, sculpture and architectural space. Throughout her practice, she has been analysing how body movement responds to the various factors of the built environment, challenging the ways in which we observe and experience a given architectural situation. One of the focal concerns in Drčar’s work is the process of time. Her early creations of ephemeral and spatial experiences within the form of live performance led her to examine time as an element in relation to our perception of space. This has fuelled her interest in exploring the form of physically built structure as a time-based experience. Drčar is interested in creating artworks that activate the surrounding architecture and promote the viewer’s engagement in a spatial experience of the given space. Her aim is to create situations that do not only concentrate on the concept of space, but also on the sensation of it.

Drčar has exhibited at various venues internationally, including Mana Contemporary, New Jersey, USA (2020), A Performance Affair, Brussels, Belgium (2019), Reaktor, Vienna, Austria (2019), ArtNight London, UK (2018), Palazzo Monti, Brescia, Italy (2017), Nuit Blanche, Paris, France (2017), ICA, London, UK (2013) and Galerija Škuc, Ljubljana, Slovenia (2011).
