Biography

After studying foreign languages, Elsa Leydier (1988, FR) joined the École Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie in Arles in 2012. She graduated in 2015. She now lives between France and Brazil, where she develops a photographic practice around the power of iconic images.

Elsa Leydier was the 2019 winner of the Prix de la Maison Ruinart/Paris Photo 2019, and one of the winners of the Dior Prize for Young Photography the same year. In 2020, she is one of the 16 laureates of the public commission launched by the CNAP in partnership with the Jeu de Paume, one of the 5 laureates of the Mentorat des Filles de la Photo, and laureate of the Prix Emergentes Award of the Encontros da Imagem festival (Braga, Portugal).

Her work has been shown in solo exhibitions in Colombia, the United States, France, Portugal and the Netherlands, and in group exhibitions and fairs, including Paris Photo and Art Paris (Paris, France), ArCO Madrid (Madrid, Spain), Rencontres de la Photographie d'Arles (Arles, France), Month of Photography Los Angeles (Los Angeles, United States), Kyotographie Festival (Kyoto, Japan), agnès b. at the gallery Les Filles du Calvaire, at Photo Saint Germain or at the festival Circulation(s) (Paris, France).
