"planning /experimenting with pre-putting gritty layer of paint by hand to each sheet of paperboard prior to the printing. the screenprint is done with solvent based paint, so the preparation layer is also using solvent based black, only super thinned out". (Larger version of this image opens in a popup).
"It was really hard to judge the colour, since it was 99% solvent, so the paper soaked in it (and went already dark by the sheer saturation while it was still undissolved. I cut pieces from the previous print to check the grade of the grey grittyness. while dried, there was almost nothing visible anymore." (Larger version of this image opens in a popup).
"The irst layer is the white of the window frames. second is the black. here we’re adjusting the 'darkness' (the saturation) of the 3rd layer - the first (and lighter) of the two transparent black 'shadow'-layers" (Larger version of this image opens in a popup).
"The first layer is the white of the window frames. second is the black. Here in comparison with the previous print. I always wanted it darker, while Olli constantly warned that we’re already darker than both layers of the previous print. so I said then it was to light in the previous .." (Larger version of this image opens in a popup).
"Discussing the 4th layer - which is the darker of the two transparent black 'shadow'-layers. again - Olli thinking it is too dark already, I was trying to convince him via mobile phone that it can easily get darker. (since I was setting up the show already, I could only be there twice while they were printing to actually help dialing in the colours.) I’m sending him a sample, where I overpaint a sample of the previous print with transparent black, to show him, that it is ok to add more 'darkness' to the layer … here how i masked my sample " (Larger version of this image opens in a popup).

Now the last /6th layer - transparent white for the hilights of the ornamental frieze and the hilights of the golden balconies (which have been printed before as the 5th layer) (Larger version of this image opens in a popup).
