Biography

Cécile Dupaquier, born in 1970 in France, has been living and working in Berlin, Germany since 2004. She studied at École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts in Lyon (1988 - 1993), where she also obtained a post-graduate scholarship in 1995.

Dupaquier’s practice is based on the transformation and manipulation (assembling, cutting, folding) of simple construction materials. Through this modification, the raw materials, such as plasterboard, foam insulation sheet covers, polystyrene or hardboard panels, reveal their structural limits and intrinsic beauty. She works predominantly with sculptures and drawings, as well as with site-specific installations. The components of her site-specific work, which are in close dialogue with the given exhibition space, are subsequently destroyed or recycled in the following exhibitions.

Dupaquier has created large-scale projects and public artworks in France, Switzerland and Germany, and her works have been exhibited across Europe, including at Laura Mars Gallery, Berlin (2019), Mehdi Chouakri, Berlin (2018), Thomas Rehbein Galerie, Cologne (2018), Muzeum Sztuki, Łódź (2017), Gallery Sofie Van de Velde, Antwerp (2017), and Daniel Marzona Gallery, Berlin (2017).
